GamesCom 2017 Trailers, Announcements and More
GamesCom is the biggest gaming event in Europe and, unlike E3 where a large part of the focus tends to be about hardware, Gamescom is all about the software. Tons of games get updates, announcements, new trailers and release dates just in time for the fall/holiday season. This years event stretched from August 22nd-26th and there is a lot to cover.
Microsoft -
Microsoft never disappoints and there's always a lot to report from their presentations. Right off the bat they announced the scorpio pre-orders which didn't last long. Most retailers sold out the first day. They also revealed the Project Scorpio and Minecraft limited editions of the Xbox One X consoles. The project scorpio edition has the projects name printed on the controller as well as the console. The Minecraft edition actually has a really cool look to it and comes with a matching controller, a game, and a few other easter eggs tucked away. See all the details for that console here.
Here's Some of the Microsoft trailers you may have missed this week:
Microsoft also announced the Sea of Thieves Alpha (Which will be active until the end of the week.) They also revealed the crossplay-ability of Sea of Thieves and list of over 100 Xbox One X enhanced titles including (Wolfenstein and Tomb Raider.) The news about getting remasters of Age of Empires II and III and the long awaited Sequel IV was also very exciting. This is an incredibly compressed list of everything microsoft talked about this week so for all the details visit their news page here.
Nintendo -
Nintendo usually does things a little smaller than Sony or Microsoft but they still had some stuff to bring to the table. The only hardware announcement they made was a new edition of their new handheld. The SNES 3DS XL looks cool but unfortunately it was only announced for Europe at the beginning of October.

Nintendo revealed Luncheon Kingdom (a food inspired land for Mario Odyssey,) The Switch will get exclusive Nintendo cars for Rocket League. Super Mario 3D land, Luigi's Mansion 2 and Kirby Triple Deluxe were announced for the 3DS. Pre-orders for Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon as well as Gold and Silver Packaged editions are now available.
Sony -
Sony's only hardware announcement was the beautiful Gran Turismo special edition of the 1 TB PS4 Slim. Unfortunately this beautiful console doesn't seem to have a US release date yet so don't get too excited. For those who can get their hands on this, it comes with a Day 1 edition of the game which provides access to $250,000 in-game credits, livery sticker packs, a chrome racing helmet and 60 PS4 avatars.
Sony dropped a ton of trailers over the last week and I don't want to overwhelm you with all of them so I'm just gonna list what I thought looked most exciting. Check out their youtube channel to see everything they've been uploading for GamesCom. Shenmue 3 was probably the most exciting announcement since the series has been dormant for so long. Unfortunately the trailer was... well... just see for yourself. Also if you're a destiny fan, PS4 is getting the usual special treatment from Bungie including exclusive items and early Beta access so don't wait to pre-order!
EA -
EA is a staple at gaming conventions and they had some really cool stuff to show off at GamesCom. Star Wars, FIFA and several other titles really stood out. Though they're not really that new as titles, what they showed off was really intriguing. They took a page right out of Forza's book by revealing the BMW M5 and it's playability in the new Need For Speed: Payback. The car and the game both look pretty fun but it'll be interesting to see how well NFS does against GT Sport.

Ubisoft -
Although the big Ubisoft news (Assassin's Creed Origins) was touched on by both Microsoft and Sony, they still had a few new projects to talk about.
THQ Nordic-
The Devs that brought us Just Cause, Quantum Break and Darksiders Announced their new project, BioMutant. This game looks hilarious and fun and was probably the most exciting announcement for me. I can't wait to see all the adorable and deadly combinations of fuzzy creatures, biotic enhancements and weapons this game lets us play with. Come on 2018!
So there you have it. An extremely boiled down version of everything we got from GamesCom 2017 so far. The event still has a few more days so we'll see if anything else comes out of the woodwork. What are you most excited about? Are you busting at the seems to get your hands on the Sims 4 console port? Let us know!
