Universal just got dark

Today Universal has released some interesting tid bits on the direction of their upcoming Dark Universe Monsters line-up. So, what is the "Dark Universe" and why the heck is Universal trying to jump on a cinematic universe bandwagon now? Two reasons;

1. Marvel/Disney has been destroying the box office with this concept leaving other studios in its wake attempting to catch up

2. Universal owns the rights to some of the most iconic and classic horror monsters in film history i.e. Dracula, Wolfman, The Mummy, Frankenstein and more!

We now know that in addition to Russell Crowe playing a go between Dr Hyde character throughout each film, Johnny Depp and Javier Bardem will join the cast of Frankenstein and The Invisible Man (after becoming besties on the set of the new Pirates). I'm speculating that Depp would make the most sense playing the Invisible Man and Bardem could probably do some very interesting things as Frankenstein's Monster. While being a bit skeptical on the new Tom Cruise Mummy and even the acquiring of Depp with his recent flubs of late, I'll hold out hope until I see the finished product(s). Catch the Dark Universe teaser below.
